A Very British Cup Of Tea Poem by Ashley J. Farraway

A Very British Cup Of Tea

Rating: 4.0

Once in a lifetime you get that feeling,

the day you open the back door and step out

into the cold, sunny Springtime air,

and stare,

into the sky, into the sun, it's what life is about.

I'm nervous, I can feel the wind upon my skin

as I sip a very British cup of tea,

considering my words, my thoughts,

I'm caught,

And I'm happier being me,

with you. Next steps, first steps, have waited long

enough yet each tiny, giant leap inspires

and drives. I'm honoured to ride with you

together through

these lyrics of our own sweet song.

Bonded by more than gold, more than emotion,

more than souls connected in time.

Eyes are open, no-one like you and me

drinking a very British cup of tea.

Your heart belongs with mine.

Once in a lifetime it comes to most,

once in a decade if you're lucky as can be.

Every day I have my lifetime moment

seeing you smile, knowing its meant to be.

We sit and have our very British cup of tea.

Together, forever, you and me.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
The poem was written one February morning when I took my morning cup of tea and stood by the door of my home and had a moment of clarity, as I state in the poem itself, and just had the need to express my mood. Its inspiration is my fiancée.
