A Very Long Mile Poem by Dorsey Baker

A Very Long Mile

Waking up this morning
Looking within himself
At himself
He saw himself
A better someone
Older but wiser
Somewhat lonely and sad
Some emptiness
Some regrets
But not very many
Someone who had
Weathered the years successfully!

Someone who still
Had enough life
Left in him
Enough energy to
Run the last mile
And win the race!
