Acknowledgment Poem by Faith Evanstar

Acknowledgment

All I ever wanted
Was your acknowledgement.

For you to be proud of me,
For whom I really am.

Instead I’m fading,
Into the background.
Slowly becoming invisible.

You used to care for me,
Before she came along.

She outshone me,
Took you away.

Now I’m all alone,
With nobody to care for me.

The years have passed,
And she is gone.

You came back,
Like nothing ever happened.

You offered your love,
Your care and compassion.

But I don’t need it.
I’m fine on my own.
