Acquitting Guilt Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Acquitting Guilt

Does it really matter,
If acquitting someone of guilt...
Is the final verdict determined.
Or...
If a bad marriage,
Should end in divorce?

The affects,
Will continue to linger on.
To never forget,
A going through the process.
Knowing who did what to do,
Leaving emotions...
Permanently damaged.

And...
The beginning of what ends,
That which had once...
Known nothing but love given.
To reminisce now,
With regret left to feel.
Without a cure to fill the void.

'Geessshh. Wow.
What a bad marriage.'

And no one can say,
They had not been warned.
Long before the oath taken.
Was witnessed to see.
By many looking on,
In shock and disbelief.

'You mean 'vows'
Right? '

Does that really matter?
What difference does it make?
When promises are made,
To remain faithful...
Are later discovered,
Purposely broken.
That vow or oath to break,
Is a disappointing reality...
To face the disgrace of it all!

'Be positive.
There will always be,
More fish in the sea! '

For me?
I'm hoping there will be,
A sustaining drought...
Of deceivers!
