Advent of Monsoon Rain
(a poem by Shakil Ahmed)
I waited for a shower of rain
Emanated from cotton like puffy clouds,
Along with a gust of chilling breeze
That made man cowed and bowed
And heralded the advent of monsoon days
I saw the jovial face of scraggy boy
Romping in the puddle of water
Like a slow snail of shallow moor
Downpour washed away with its
Shiny and sparkling water
The tiny petals of bluish pompon
With a delicate touch of fresh water
The leaf of lovely mandarin
Renewed herself with greenish look
As a new bride of wedding bed
The warmth of winter we can't forget
But her joy at leaving was tinged with regret
With the advent of monsoon rain
River adorned her bosom with quivering waves
And flowing like a dancing girl
Beaming with pride and fascination
Monsoon water cleared the dust of centuries
Gathered through the passage of days and months
With a shower of its crystalline water
Sans washing away the sins accumulated in the soul
Of venomous mortal man.
