A Wink Of Sleep Poem by shakil ahmed

A Wink Of Sleep

A wink of sleep

Shakil Ahmed

I pine for a wink of sleep
Lying on the arms of ocean
Where shark and whale
Coexist like lion cubs
Where diamond hides its
Luminous sparkles for ages
In the caves of its hollow

I often feel
Someone is beckoning me
Towards a solitary winding path
That ends in the bottom of sea
The yelling of waves
I often hear
Placing my head
Upon the blood-soaked thigh
Of virgin girl.

When rain dangles from
Top of woodland tree
And paves it's way towards ocean
To meet it's final doom
I often dream of a sleep
Lulled by unfurl waves
Like the drops of rain
To get out of untold pain.

One-day all men and women
Will fall asleep
In the bosom of waves
Driven by terrible winds
From the bed of illusion
Bosom of men are burning always
Blood is oozing like drops of rain
Who will put out that flame?

Only a wink of sleep,
In the arms of sea,
That merges with nothingness,
Will rinse us like summer's rain
Consuming our sorrow and pain.
