Alaska Blues. Poem by Steve Caine

Alaska Blues.

Alaska Blues.

There were Sixteen dogs pulling my sled,
As the sun came up the morning said,
Hello son what are you doing here,
Its minus ten in the ice and snow
Aint no relevance, got some where to go.

My Alaska Blues are burning me,
I'm all alone, my dogs and me,
Can't see the woods for the trees,
Just White light showering me,
Wind in my hair in my heaven on earth,
While thoughts in my head are just for her.

I got sold out just yesterday,
Sent on some errand out of the way,
How was I to know what the truth was,
How could my friend send that news?
Now I'm gone, she's all alone,
Now I'm Driving my dogs to get back home,

My Alsaka Blues run in my tears,
As the sound of her voice rings in my ears,
Moving like fire through the trees,
Dogs drive me home into her arms,
Driving a wedge into his charms,
Just a few hours now and I'm back home,
I pray I find her alone.

Our history is written like tracks in the snow, we spent our lives with each other you know,
And nothing on earth can take us apart, I wish we hadn't argued as my eyes start to smart,
My mind talks in riddles as I ride my sled, sixteen dogs, love running through my head.

My Alaska Blues have taken me home,
Their eyes shining bright in their grey winter coats,
Back to my girl and into her arms,
Waiting for me with open heart,
Eight dogs to my left, eight to my right,
Roaring log fire and stars at night,
Laying outside in the winter snow,
With my girl back at home.
