Aleppo Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Aleppo

Aleppo

Oh my eyes and ears
Oh my heart that throbs
Oh tears that pour down and flood:
Aleppo, Aleppo, Aleppo

Oh anger's volcano burst crust
Spit out the melted fireballs
Slip down the throat the lava:
Aleppo, Aleppo, Aleppo

Who brought the tinder set fire?
Who fanned and blew wind over it?
Who has pan to boil, cook the power?
Who passes the news, in what way?
Why do they? Why do they? Why do they?

Are they but governments and powers?
Are they but dirty and selfish and ignorant?
Aren't they copies and duplicates of devil?
Why do they set account on our corpse?
Why do they shed blood of daily duellers?

I as one cry, sob
Extend hand far, too far
Try to garb hands if I can
Am pushed back two steps every time
That I take a step toward top.

Give me bomb
Give me gun
Train me
To drop and to shoot the devil
To get rid of demon puppeteers
They hide and animate, manipulate,
We must cut their threads and wires.

They sit in palaces, offices like the ones
In Moscow, Washington, and Riyadh
And the ones in Tehran, Ten-Downing
They fool us with single, burn many
Most of us live in some "Aleppo! ! ! ! "
