All I Want Is To Be Human Poem by Godwin Nnanna

All I Want Is To Be Human

Rating: 5.0

All I want is to be human
To be seen as human
To be treated as human
To be respected as human
The dignity you cherish is the same I crave

Don't kick me around like I hold no value
Shackle me not as though I am a slave
I'm the image you see when you look into the mirror
I ask for no favor, no money, no free gift
All I seek is an opportunity for a life of dignity

Your reality may look different from mine
But like you, I'm the father of someone
Desirous to provide a future for my children
A son to a mother in need of care
A husband to a wife deserving of love and support

I'm the mother of your daughter's classmate
The caregiver of your aged parent
The nanny for your kids
The factory hand that makes the clothes you wear
The mechanic that repairs your car

My labor stares at you in the food you eat
In the grocery store where you shop
The office you work, and the school you learn
I seek no pity, nor penny from you
Just to be seen as the human that I really am
