All We Do Is Pray Poem by Randy McClave

All We Do Is Pray

I am so tired of Christian's praying
With the empty words that they keep saying,
But, one thought that I believe is true
God, is probably tired of them too.
A person prays for someone on the street
Someone starving or homeless that they saw or did meet,
They then pray that the person will be homed and fed
But, they forget about their full cupboard, and empty bed.
We hate and hurt someone whom is Hispanic or black
And then at immigrants we will curse and then attack,
We then happily ridicule and judge a person who is gay
We then pray.

I wonder what God truly thinks
When to the lowest part of life someone sinks,
Then a person holding a bagfull of groceries does stare
Then they pass their starvation off to God in a prayer.
There is a person who is highly depressed
To his situation to all he has confessed,
But, instead of spending a few minutes to talk and listen
A Christian passes it on to God, now he believes his soul does glisten.
We pray for victims of sexual assault or another sex sin
We ignore the devaluation of young women in the eyes of men,
So, what do we Christians ever do or say
We just pray.

God has commanded, and equipped us when sired
So, we must stop asking God as we are already wired,
We must not hope or pray and wish for another person's luck
And unto God, we must stop passing him the buck.
Unsportive prayers are not limited or even strange
We should instead cherish works and help others, then we'll change,
Now instead of our prayers going into Heaven with a tear
With a smile we can see ourselves in the mirror.
God, is always telling up what to do
But, we won't listen, so we pretend that we have not a clue,
God, hears our prayers, but then that's all that we say
There is a school shooting, and all we do is pray.

God has given us the glory to reflect the character of Christ
But, then there has been a great spiritual heist,
So, we Christians send out our prayers in repetitions
We ignore our tools that should be used given in those petitions.
We ignore and then we pretend that we do not know
Of the many hungry, hurting, disregarded, brutalized people are so,
And what do we Christians always do
We wait for God to move, as we all are so reluctant to.
The boldest prayer that we Christians can utter in these days
Is when we get our hands dirty and then give God his praise,
For our sins and ignorance we will all someday pay
But, for now all we do is just pray.
