Alone Poem by Daniel Bernard Kelleher

Alone

Growing old was once honourable
Today its just plain horrible
Once you aged with dignity
Today its just plain misery
Once considered man of the house
Today its just get them out
People have no sense of duty
To love or honour their elderly
Family can be the worse of all
Neither visit neither call
For us the welcome mat is gone
You hear them say we pong
Sitting in what once was home
Some times hungry most times alone
Visits from loved ones is all we crave
While alive and not in a grave
