'Alone Without The One Who Cared' Poem by James McLain

'Alone Without The One Who Cared'

I walk a path where silence grows,
A winding trail through hollow souls,
Where sorrow clings as cold wind blows.

The past still whispers, etched in lines,
Upon my head, upon my heart—
A weight that did not heed the signs.

No mind, no voice, no place my home,
Just echoes where no soul can rest,
A soldier lost, this heart unblessed.

The nights are long, the dark unkind,
It weaves old horrors, cuts run deep,
And wait behind once brilliant eyes.

I dream of battles I still fight,
The cries of those I could not save,
Their names lie buried, yet they weep.

Each dawn, the world feigns something brave,
But time's embrace is thin cold air,
And I, forgotten, stand enslaved—
Alone without the one who cared.
