Always With You Poem by Gemma Southworth

Always With You

I am with you now because of how you felt
I won’t say a word and I know you won’t tell
I’m here for you always if you need an embrace
Can you feel my hands gently holding your face?

I am in your heart and head now and always
I am here for you if you need me in your darkest of days
I know now and then, You will forget me for a while
When the days are bright and long and the sun still shines

I am with you forever just cast your thoughts
Carry out the special act, but don’t get caught
Doesn’t that feel better, its almost like a dream
The way the pain disappears, but its not what it seems

Your soul is full of darkness, scary and black
Now that you’re with me there is no turning back
Family and friends will try keeping us apart
But they don’t yet realize I am in your heart

With the hatred of others and the heaped on shame
I am the feeling that you daren’t speak of my name
The act of mine you do where you cut into your flesh
In places well hidden so no-one can guess

You don’t want them to know or ever find out
Because you know they don’t understand what its all about
About ridding your body of the humiliation it endures
Such a cowardly way of dealing with it, it can only be yours

You smile and look happy but I know it’s a mask
You say you feel great if anyone should ask
But behind the smile and laughter you wear
There’s a small curled up you shaking in tears

I don’t know why you bother pretending at all
Not one of those people will catch if you fall
So you keep on cutting and crying in my name
Because that’s all you have left to keep you sane

I am self hatred and loathing simple and pure
I am the monster that’s behind your closet door
I am the feeling when you know you have no worth
I am here to end your pain and take you from this earth

From the poison words and the injuries you suffer
I will comfort you and hold you like no other
I will take you to oblivion where no one knows your strife
All you need to do is to take hold of this knife……….

I’m still with you now because of how you felt
I haven’t said a word and you will never tell
I’m holding you always in a crushing embrace
You can never escape me, for I hold your fate
