Thank You Poem by Gemma Southworth

Thank You

Rating: 5.0

I wish a happy mother's day
To a Nan who’s beautiful and kind
Just to say a great big thank you
For the love in you I find

You say “they do see through wrappers”
And if I was wearing one now
You would see that you are in my heart
And I love you is what it shouts

You are like a mother to me
And you treat me like your own
You are both second parents to me
Who live in my first home

You still have all my books
And material from my dress
The handprints are gone from the wall
But the memories are still fresh

You taught me how to knit and bake
And how to darn a sock
You taught me how to tidy my room
But that one - I’ve forgot! !

I hope to make you proud someday
So you can say “that’s our girl”
I’m not doing so well at the minute
But one day I’ll be on top of the world

And you will be there with me
You and granddad both
I promise you that, this day
And that’s a solemn oath

You are like the sun above
Spreading warmth where you go
That warmth is guidance, love, and care
And thanks to you I’m never cold

When I was a little girl
I wanted to grow up just like you
I’m happy to say that now I don’t
For there could be no other like you

I hope this poem makes you happy
In years from this day
Just to let you know I love you
And have a happy mother's day
