American Mythology Poem by Randy McClave

In American mythology,
People are rich because of 'hard work.',
That is their ideology
Which they give with a laugh and a smirk.
Of all the American millionaires
From which hard-work their wealth was not merited,
Including the many billionaires
Their wealth came from what they had inherited.
They say those who work a 40 hour week
Soon will become very rich,
That is the future that all hardworking people seek
Especially the ones who dig a ditch.
Yet nobody can explain why those who do
To which I think is extremely funny,
The hard workers who labor in sweat pay their due
Yet the hard working laborers have no money.
