An Addict's Promise Poem by Tiffny Rhodius

An Addict's Promise

Rating: 5.0

Like a junkie after a fix I am back here again.
Longings so intense my body trembles with wanting.
The need so great I can hardly stand straight.
Why do I torture myself this way?
Why can’t I stay away?
When I try to resist,
I keep being drawn again and again
As you lure me in with your sickly sweet smell.
Your liquid amber offers succour
To this hurt I’m trying to deny.
My need to consume you is greater than any.
I need you more than I need food.
I need you more than I need clothes.
I need you with the intensity of rain.
I need you with the passion of love ignited again.
I need you,
To take away my pain.
Numb this heart so it can feel again.
Set to fire my mind to live anew.
Give your comforting warmth to me
One last time and I promise,
I really promise
To never lean your healing lips to mine
Ever again.

I really liked this, such yearning and submission. I have written poem called Cruise Control which is simular to this but not as profound as this, but I think you would enjoy it and I would like to know what you think of it :)

Tiffny: Having recently returned to Maryland from Guyana, this fascinated me. I half expected it to reveal in the end the demon 'Rum'. Please read some of mine. I did write one when I was there called Guyana Voices. I was there for three months staying on the West Band Demerara. Adeline Foster
