An Ant's Last Breath Poem by Theresa Ann Moore

An Ant's Last Breath

This animated creature is persistent
and one of the most annoying
Finding ways to gain entry to the house
they are devious while strategically deploying

Racing across the counter tops…looking
for something sweet to eat…. when
seen... they intrinsically know when to freeze
momentarily still… then speeding once again

Hate to be barbaric…but they cause grief
Can't stand the sight of them on flavorful food
or in the depths of a trash can…I have no alternative
they must be destroyed…sorry to be rude

If only they would decide to take a detour
This guilt upon my brain would cease
Today I see the message must have gotten
out… no intruders are seen…at last peace
