An Awakening Of Sorts Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

An Awakening Of Sorts

An awakening of sorts
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
My one sided romance with PM Justin Trudeau
Has ended for I finally, woke up and smelt the roses
And they had the scent of new found wisdom
I must say that the PM's Office did compliment me
On the beauty of my poems a couple of times
But what had been an apparent promise from Justin Trudeau
Did not become reality
It seems like a tall tale
But he had said that he would publish and pay me
And unless he surprises me, his worst sceptic,
I have closed the chapter of trustingly believing in
The powers that be the foundation of climbing the tree of success
In Canada and Canadian institutions;

I shall continue to pursue the same path of operation
But it will lack the naivete of the greenhorn
I am reminded of the tale of Charles Dickens's Great Expectations
Where the hero, Pip, learns, to his dismay,
That it is the escaped convict whom he unwittingly helped,
Who is his benefactor and not Estella's spinster aunt, Miss Havisham,
But the bottom line is that he has been pushed up the ladder of success.
