An Early Bird Walk Poem by Alison Gaff

An Early Bird Walk

Rating: 2.5

I've just been on a bird walk
With some like minded folk
Organised by 'Forgotten Landscapes'
And Ed Drewitt was the bloke

In drips and drabs we gathered
'Till we were nearly 20 strong
All there to learn and listen
And identify birds by sight and song

It was a nice bright morning
Just as the clocks did change
I wonder when this happens
Do the birds have to rearrange!

Kings Weston was a treasure trove
So many different birds were seen
Some came out to flaunt themselves
While others were not so keen

Then there was a great commotion
It was the highlight of my day
'Cos as we walked around the bend
There were two fighting, screaming Jays

Other birds we heard and saw
Included Nuthatch, wren and chiff-chaff
Greenfinch, thrush and blue tit
And heard the green woodpeckers strange laugh

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This walk took place on 26/3/17 in the grounds and woods surrounding Kings Weston House, Nr Bristol. Ed Drewitt led the walk and was very knowledgeable on all things bird related, which made the early start well worth it.

This is lovely! Now it was MY turn to giggle, about do the birds have to rearrange when the clocks change! I think the birds must have shown off, knowing that they were being watched! You always do very well with nature poems!
