An Escape Door Poem by Aniruddha Pathak

An Escape Door

A wolf, bleeding mouth and claws,
Pleaded innocent as hell,
When asked who his witness was,
Said, my witness is my tail.

Now, if a lie's all a lie,
One can well fight it outright,
But if half a truth well nigh,
Nigh harder is it to fight.

Poor truth oh left all alone,
Void of witness, ill at ease,
Displayed a half-devoured bone,
But lost still, God bless justice!

Lies ever since aloud roar,
Sans red-proof, finds escape door!
And justice watches helpless,
Prisoner in its own fortress!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Today's justice, loaded against the poor, and favouring the powerful and wealthy that can buy time, alibis, to create escape doors, whilst the courts want nothing short of bleeding red proof.
