An Eye For Beauty Poem by Jim Yerman

An Eye For Beauty

She sees the world as a myriad of little paintings…
She sees the beauty…with one restraint…
She is unable to capture that beauty on canvas…
She was not born with the gift to paint.

But she found a way to catch that beauty
a technique all her own…
Her eyes search the world for paintings
she captures on her camera phone.

She happily shares her photos
some…she keeps framed upon a shelf…
and people marvel at their beauty…
even wonder if she painted them herself.

The beauty people see in her photos
has caused her thinking to shift…
How it's not the ability to paint the beauty…
but to see it…that is her gift.

To see the beauty all around her…
to know that beauty never ends…
to be able to capture that beauty
and share it with family and friends

As she takes pictures of sunsets, of the flowers,
of the butterflies and the bees…
She no longer regrets not being able to capture on canvas
the beauty that she sees

She no longer regrets not being able to paint…
She no longer wonders why…
For she knows the gift was never in her hands…
It was always in her eyes.
