An Occasion From Which To Rise Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

An Occasion From Which To Rise

Although painful to face,
These days of sorrow, heartbreak...
And the stinging pain,
To everyone they bring.
Difficult it will be,
For anyone to rise to the occasion.
With it believing to accept,
This to endure is an opportunity.
Given,
To look at ourselves as human beings.
And not commodities to watch,
Dropped to bottom out on the stock market.

We together can rise to the occasion.
With a priority kept to keep it focused,
Not on material things.
Bling to impress.
Or the insignificance,
Of how one dresses to live at what address.
Religious affiliation,
Professing beliefs to worship as they please.
Voting Democrat or Republican.

These days of sorrow, heartbreak...
And unbearable stinging pain.
Felt to feel it real.
Should and eventually will,
Have everyone rise to the occasion to see...
How incredibly unconscious,
We have allowed division.
Conflicts,
And the chasing of unending greed...
Leave humanity at the edge of devastation.
Because of a 'dollar'.

Given...
Is an occasion from which to rise.
Given...
An opportunity to open our eyes.
Given...
Is a time to become,
Much more aware and enlightened.
Awakening from delusions.
