An Old Clown Poem by michael Smajda

An Old Clown

Oh, I wanted so much to be a clown.
Oh, I wanted so much to bring people joy.
But when I auditioned the part to be a clown,
All the judges turned away this old boy.

You see, they were seeking someone much younger,
Even though I had more experience than they.
They thought I wouldn't have the stamina
To do all the clowning required every day.

So, here I am, now, amusing myself.
I clown around when and where I go.
I know I would have been a darn good clown
And put on a memorable clown of a show.
