An Open And Shut Case - Tanka

An open and shut case
- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
this case solves itself
twenty beastly men versus
a girl not yet twelve
crime went on and on-hush hush
unsmelt by owners' noses

timid sitting duck,
picking her guts, went to town;
unshockables shook;
over months, while crime went on,
where were the people who owned?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In Chennai, India, in an apartment complex, the service staff, like security guards, lift-operators, plumbers... sexually harassed a 11 year old girl for months together, until finally, the girl, unable to bear the torture, went public and a police complaint was lodged. the offenders have been arrested. The residents and owners of the apartment complex, were blissfully unaware of what is going on right under their noses.. The CCTV cameras had conveniently stopped functioning! This story is not unusual in India.
