Ancient World Knowledge Ignited Illiterate Minds Poem by Terence George Craddock

Ancient World Knowledge Ignited Illiterate Minds

written papyrus scrolls scholarly tomes
in classical architecture ancient world libraries;
did not sit unused idle gather dust unread

without access for interested illiterate minds
scholars flocked to libraries; in alcoves a literate reader would;
serve read texts for illiterate passionate listeners

libraries were not in ancient world
places of hush hush no speak silences;
libraries were vibrant thought conducts

through read out loud readers to extended masses
a reader reading out loud was a language alchemist;
reading script symbols characters letters meaningless

to illiterate minds
spoken into voiced oral language;
heard understood

meaning accessed after a passage
reading came scholarship cultural exchange discourse;
discussion ignited multiple minds

into perception
understood implications;
meaning a poet

reader penetrated thick impenetrable
dense wooded forest of illiteracy walked;
a travel sunlit path through dark forest

to discover pools of knowledge
crystal-clear streams of fabulous knowledge;
running waters flow of knowledge

flows effortlessly in streams of words
in spoken trade rivers of crossed language;
burdens of convoluted syntax cryptic

terminology in academic fields
rendered into colloquial common speech;
discussions in voiced repetitions

of passages analysis meanings
convenience convergence is;
voice simultaneous understanding

many mind listeners expressing opinions
voiced manuscript ripples of thoughts spiderweb spreading;
in circular thoughts constructing communal

web ideas community city meaning comprehension
a beacon of light was cast into an illiterate world;
into past world of literate readers aged bad eyesight
