And This Is How It’s In The New South Africa: Poem by Gert Strydom

And This Is How It’s In The New South Africa:

It’s a place where people hide beyond high fences
with dogs patrolling up and down
and the hope that criminals
while break in somewhere else,
while hijackers aim their guns
at somebody else
and that they will take a car with force
from somebody else,
and that they will shoot to kill
somebody else,

with the wish that foreigners
will estrange somebody else from work,
that the government
will take the possessions
of somebody else.
