Anna Mae Pictou Aquash R.I.P. Poem by Luke Easter

Well, thirty-six years after the cold hard facts,
Justice shines on the guilty of a criminal act,
Or should that be plural with a “s” on the end?
OK, let’s look and see from where it all begins.

02/24/1976 she was found dead by State Road 73,
Pine Ridge 10 miles from South Dakota’s Wanblee,
The licensed medical practitioner Dr. W.O. Brown,
Reported death from exposure is what put her down.

Failing to miss the gunshot in the back of her head,
2nd competent autopsy revealed why she was dead,
A pathologist from Minneapolis Dr. Garry Peterson,
Without his expertise the case was lost, over & done.

American Indian Movement supporters and her family,
Would not allow the murders to simply get away free,
Even the FBI had her hands to check for fingerprints,
It took an independent exam after the fact to convince.

I do not know about you but I have been smelling a rat,
First a doctor then the bureau and it’s a dead one at that,
How to miss a bullet hole and no ID when she’s known?
Thank God her family & AIM would not leave this alone.

A program teaching young Indians about their historic lives,
Teaching & Research in Bicultural Education Schools TRIBES,
It’s just one of the many projects to which she dedicated her life,
She was also intelligent, dedicated to the cause & a devoted wife.

Abducted, violated and murder, who were they trying to protect?
And how could the Friging Bunch of Idiots (FBI) suddenly forget,
Well, not the investigators there today for they have closed the case,
I’m speaking of the original crew who mysteriously forgot her face.

The statute of limitations for homicide will never be out of style,
Though the fashion world changes suspects are still brought to trial,
Yes, thirty-three years is a long time suffice to say it did take awhile,
However, we did get to the moon and that distance is 238,857 miles.

At this stage in the game there’s not much by way of the media,
Might have to check online and look up Anna Mae in Wikipedia,
Or as some have suggested see the American Indian Mafia site,
You will have to decide for yourself who is wrong and who is right.

Some of you are upset at the negative remarks mentioned about the FBI,
They botched it just like memos surfaced after the 9/11 disaster that’s why,
I am sure that 99% are more than stellar in the performance of their duty,
Yet all government agencies have 1% that need to be kicked in the booty.
