Another Very Cold Winter Poem by Dorsey Baker

Another Very Cold Winter

She smells the coffee
As it brews hot in the pot
Hears the sweet sound of
Small birds singing in the backyard
She feels a chilly wind
That is coming through the crack
From the broken window
That sits just in front of her bed
And she feels so very uncomfortable
Because she is confined to her bed
Because of a chronic illness
She is waiting for someone to come
And place another very warm blanket on the bed
And cover her body with it
Death is closing in
She senses it to be much closer now!
Life is slowly slipping away
But it ain't all bad!
She is expecting to go to heaven
When she finally dies!
