Anthem Poem by Etienne Charilaou

Anthem

Dear ones of my past affection,
our ties of friendship are now insubstantial,
abiding only in memory and in the heart.
In other lives your eyes sparkle for new companions.
You are much older now as am I.

I believe now we shall not meet again.
The sight of you is lost to me
for the remainder of my days.

Severing is Earth's anthem
but heaven's is otherwise.
