Are You So Naïve? Poem by Paula Glynn

Are You So Naïve?

Return to innocence:
Are you so naïve?
Do you really not realize your mistake?
You took me for granted
You took me for a gullible fool
You used me for your personal gain.

Because your sweetness is my weakness:
Are you so naïve?
Because my kindness must somehow be weakness
That I am kind to a fault
But what I will give you will add up to naught
Because I am not a free bank account.

Ship of fools:
Are you so naïve?
One hand washes the other
Like the pretending beautiful lover
Clever with their snide tricks
Clever with the hidden hate and mind games.

You're so beautiful:
Are you so naïve?
Because that is what you told me
But now your touch is winter cold
Now I am the one hatefully ditching you
I am the one that will be bold.

I am the invincible Monkey King:
Are you so naïve?
I am the one to teach lessons
You must go to church confession
Because I am not the guilty one
And when it comes to how I feel I am having fun.
