Are You The One, Wait, My Soul Mate Poem by Dennis Ryan

Are You The One, Wait, My Soul Mate

Sunday morning, March 19, 2023; Friday morning, April 7, 2023

'And I will never be set free as long as I'm a ghost
you can't see... '
—Gordon Lightfoot, 'If You Could Read My Mind'

Are you the one... Wait. Yes, wait awhile.
Take your time. You are in no hurry. No worries.
You've lived long enough, had enough experiences
to know 'the real thing' when it comes along. She will
sing to you, make trustful music for your ears—that
much I guarantee. But she will do much more, light a fire
in you that has happened only once before; she will be
your soul mate for just as long as you can trust her;
for just as long as she sees you for who you are …
She will be an open door. Her eyes, voice will take
you inside of her, reveal both she herself and you
for who the two of you are, but, more importantly,
who you can be. Yes, that possibility and potential.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some people are lucky enough to meet and marry a soul mate. Soul mates are also fantastic, as in the use of terms such as " fancy" and " fantasy" and one must beware fantasy.
