As Evening Falls Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

As Evening Falls

Evening falls with a cool breeze
Singing lullaby for the meadows;
Shadows of trees in courtyards
Gets taller and creep into the
Rooms through doors and windows;

Birds fall silent inside nests
Wind comes with a rhythmic flow;
The river banks are deserted
As farmers and cattle return home,
On the horizon the sun sinks low;

One by one the stars comes out
To shine across the darkening sky;
Young brides stand on stairs
With lamps to say prayer as the last
Streak of light bids them good-bye

A gust of cool wind cascades
Down the hills and settles upon,
The streets, barns, ponds and
Roofs till it is time for the night to
Retire gifting its place to the dawn.
