As On The Day Of Alast... Poem by Mohammad Younus

As On The Day Of Alast...

As on the Day of Alast...
I am listening with all my body...
...not only with my ears...
...the music that you played...
...at dawn...
...to the children of Adam...
...before you had created them...
...in human form...
...because I am in the royal palace...
...alone with the king of music;
Dispatch your message of invitation to my soul...
...to be in your constant presence;
Do not invite my heart alone;
Do not in anger and displeasure...
...make my soul a stranger or an outcast;
Do not leave my soul out of your presence...
...and do not sing to my heart alone;
Send a royal message!
Issue a special invitation! How long, O sultan...
...shall the one be with you...
...and the other roaming in wilderness?
If you do not stay with me forever...
...and close all the exit doors...
...my nafs will make a hundred uproars...
...and make me discontented and displeased...
...and disconnect me from your perpetual remembrance;
I will not lament alone then...
...my guarding angels will lament with me.
