At The Gravesite Poem by Bryan Taplits

At The Gravesite

Dissevered, asundered, and torn are we, hon,
Never to wander again just as one.
Forever so near, but vastly apart,
Celestial Reshuffle-New Deal for two hearts.
My trial unleashed-and good fortune now deceased.

Once we were children and moved all alone,
And then we 'came youths, and sounded as grown.
We met, and we married, our passions to vent,
Brief years twined together, two loves not yet spent.
(I wonder if you heard, "My heart, my dear mate,
how steadfast my love was..., Damn! Now it's too late.')

Dear One,
Nevermore shall I parse out such fervor profound,
I wail that you're buried:
... But we're both entombed in this ground.
Unremitting my keening,
though I know you're at peace,
Bereft, and in torment,
Till I too find surcease.
Aching and Anguished-
Till Blessed Release.
