At The Migros Restaurant Poem by Udaya R. Tennakoon

At The Migros Restaurant

At the Migro Resstaurant

A man sitting in the corner
A regular face but he never buy anything
Just sits and a couple of hours spends
Reads a book or works on his notebook

Untidy hair and grown-up beard
Depressive mood in thoughtful forehead he scratches
He looks around sometimes
Where about the other is sitting

Nearby table, an old lady
Unhappy gestures, impatient anger expose
She drinks a coffee and waits
An old man reaches to her table

He is next to her table
Facing the backside of his figure
He hears from the lady
Something against him she says

He works on and his time comes
Things being arranged
He looks back to see her
He smiles but a passive treat

Pulling back the chair
He stands up and carries his bag
The lady closes her nostrils by her fingertips
She murmurs to the man

He moves a few steps the out
And comes back to the lady
' Bloody Racist' he shouts ' bloody Racist'
The lady closes her face by her palms
' We all are human beings, ' he says silently

The attention of all others-centered into the silence
All look at the disappearing man
One who knows what happened
The others who have shown just only a simple evidence

Smiles are on mouth edges
'crazy' and 'dirty' and 'guilty' and vanity
Equality and order of the tables and binary images
Likewise, something happened not
The restaurant for tomorrow opens

racism has always been a scourge for humanity, but nowadays it is increasing even in the most advanced and democratic societies: politics uses it for its worst purposes, but the problem is internal to us - to each of us. If we consider ourselves superior to those who look different from us, we deny not only others' rights, but also the simple fact that ALL of us are human beings.
