Autopsy Poem by Kelvin Rush

Autopsy

I watch with interest as you slice my skin
I may have left my body but I can still tune in
You look into my face but don't know my name
Did you know that body suffered so much pain

You remove my heart with precision and skill
That heart was shattered and seriously ill
Those hands and feet you greet with smiles
Wrote a thousand poems and walked a million miles

Those eyes that witnessed all the pain and madness
Those ears that heard all the screaming and sadness
That tongue that tasted so much death
That nose that inhaled all the rancid breath

That voice that cast a thousand spells
That friend that rang the warning bells
That trust that waned so many times
That evil that committed so many crimes

That faith that had no self-control
That hate that poisoned the heart and soul
That lust that caused endless grief
That greed that envy that lying thief

That ambition that launched a zillion ideas
That self-loathing that shed a billion tears
That jealously that tore everyone apart
That final nail right through the heart

So before you dismantle my eternal life
Just remember my words and put down your knife
