Await Poem by Yamini Iyer

Await

Rating: 4.0

The lonesome house, in the hours so still
There she was, lying against the grill
Tired of an unblinking stare at the inane street
She shut her eyes, sealing all her soul to weep
Wafting through the past, the memories that haunted
The past of boundless agony, the past where all taunted
With a sigh of fatigue she opened her eyes

To see a bright day, to find the awaited surprise
After a decade, where did the breeze find it’s way?
What sourced the odorless space with the fragrance that sway?
The bright sunlight nurtured her survival
The chiming bells announced whose arrival?
Her endless pause seemed to end then
Her idle hope seemed to lend then

With all her zeal she flew towards the doors
With a wish to gallop, her toe not touching the floor
Her apparel soared far behind her
The blonde hair curls dancing beside her
She ran with the cardie she bought for him in the first earn
The one that he promised would take on his return
Running with all her force
She leaned ahead and pushed open the doors

Tearing her life apart, they found their way down her cheeks
Losing all her soul she gawked at the gypsy there on the street
Lost his way, in tattered rags, he looked with hopeful eyes
Appalled, she looked at him, the cardie and the inane skies…
