Babies And Children Do Not Belong Behind Cages Poem by Hebert Logerie

Babies And Children Do Not Belong Behind Cages

Babies and children do not belong behind cages
Babies and toddlers belong in cribs, playards or playparks
The hummingbirds need to spread their legs and wings
No cages are big or huge enough throughout the ages
For the birds to stand comfortably or at ease. Normally, rings
Are worn on the fingers not around the human neck. The parks
Are built and maintained for the birds and human beings to taste
The freshness and the glory of freedom. All beings are born
Free to breathe, to move and to roam freely. My heart is torn
Knowing that fellow human beings are living in their waste
No showers, no brushing teeth, no human interaction
They are treated worse than dangerous criminals and wild beasts
Behind chain-linked fences and are drinking water with yeasts
Not fit for human consumption. We need government to take action
To stop an inevitable disaster. Freedom is natural and God-given
Earth belongs to everyone. There is a right way to do things. Poison
Kills. Contamination and incarceration kill. Leave the birds alone
Let the hummingbirds fly away freely in the sky, next to the horizon
Not too far from the rainbow. Let our children grow in a better place
Even hard criminals must be treated humanely. Stop the filthy mess
Put yourself and your loved ones in their shoes. Love is a panacea
Hate is a cancer. Children are not personae non gratae or pariahs
Give decency, compassion, dignity, freedom, and humanity a chance
This world belongs to the rich, the poor and the ones with mischance.
