Dilantha Gunawardana

Ballet - Poem by Dilantha Gunawardana

Beneath the lace frills
And skin-tight leotards
Is a lass as light as a butterfly
And as smooth as satin
Pirouetting round in circles
In the graces and gracefulness
Of clock and counter-clockwise rotation
Sailing away like a kaleidoscopic kite
To throngs of open eyes
A tornado of nature on pointed toes
Cutting through the crispy stillness
With a gale in her heart
