Balloons Poem by Praveen Kumar In Shobha Priya

Balloons

We're light balloons
Afloat around
Tend to rise high to the sky
For fear of deflated,
And move with the wind.

In bright colours
We swim across high,
Higher than others
Without a target;
No objective in sight,
No thought of wrong or right,
Only to keep afloat
We continue to rise high.

We know to shoot up,
But not to come down
And land on solid ground;
Air is carrier,
Wind is director,
Any moment we deflate,
Fall flat on the earth;
Bright colours nowhere,
Swollen shape diminished,
We look to bare sky
As it's dreams of deep sleep.

We rise to measure clouds,
Shine in sun's light
Far away from roots,
Knowing not what we're;
Without own weight
In bulged shapes,
Nothing to reach about,
We revel in floating ever
With the air in and out,
Thin film between them;
Mere thin film
Deep at our core,
We're playing tools
Of nature's core elements;
No driving force within,
No guide to lead forward,
No light to brighten path,
No weight of our own,
Doomed to be balloons,
We keep afloat forever.

It's how we moulded ourselves,
It's how we shaped ourselves,
Not rooting to inner source,
Not nourishing natural force.
