Bang The Drum Poem by Randy McClave

Bang The Drum

Bang the drum slowly, ever so slowly
I once loved a woman, but she never loved me,
I loved her so deeply, and I loved her completely
So, please bang the drum slowly, so very slowly for me.

Once I was in love, and my heart pounded loudly
Everyone heard it, as a coming parade,
My face it did glow, and my heart pounded proudly
As though I was in, a one man crusade.

I gave her my heart, and the drum started beating
Loud and then louder, every-time that she was near,
I listened for the honesty, and all that I heard was cheating
And it was only me, who ever shedded a tear.

The drum has been playing, as I have been praying
Ever since the first day, that her and I had first met,
My soul is so strong, but my body is weak and swaying
Now unto my dreams, I will owe a great debt.

I had given her my soul, I had truly loved her madly
She was always in my dreams, and also my thoughts,
But, she treated me wrong, and also very badly
Now all that I have is a memory that rots.

Bang the drum lightly, as my heart beats ever so slightly
Soon when you're finished drumming, I'll be finished too,
I once loved a woman, but she never loved me
My heart will then be done beating, for all eternity.
