A word that strikes you
but that you'd only ever use in a poem,
and that you'd forget if you didn't,
such a word is 'reremouse'.

It's from what the English of old called 'a bat' -
'a hreremus' - probably 'a flying mouse'.

It strikes because of Hieronymus.

Not wanting to be catty,
but was that really his name
or just a polite way
to say 'I'm Batty'?

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'Hieronymus' is actually from the Greek meaning 'with a sacred name'. Sure sounds like hreremus though. Perhaps 'hreremus' means 'sacred mouse'.
Hieronymus Bosch (c.1450-1516) Dutch artist known for his macabre depictions of hell in such as 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'.
