Be Still, And Know... Poem by Adrian Wait

Be Still, And Know...

Be Still, and Know that I am God.

When I look at myself
I see powerlessness…
Whole lot more besides
It holds me back
I think about myself
How is it going for me?
Am I doing well?
Can I manage this?
Is this too much of a risk?
For when I was blind
I didn't see how far too fall
How painful to be self-wise
I need to look to Christ
Take my eyes off of Him I sink
He is the antidote for our fear
When aware of such fears without
Conscious of our weakness within
A walking contradiction
Far from all that I should be
Lost and alone in deep water
We fall short. Not once
But thrice
Be Still, and Know that I am God.
We will experience God's power
Not when we are strong, and sure
But when we reach the end of our power
No, its not when the band is playing
And the sun shining, everybody's happy
Mountaintops give way to valleys
It is in the still foreboding silence
When our words shatter in the vacuum
When there's no connection found
Shallow distance between word and deed
The music has faded, darkness all around
When we come to the end of our power
That is where we shall find His.
Be Still, and Know that I am God.
