Because Of You Poem by Kimberly Lindsey

Because Of You

Because I was afraid, I lost you once.
Because I felt fear, I ran.
Because I felt uncertainty, I pushed you away.
Because I was not brave and let fear rule my thoughts,
I lost you for seven long years.

Because I rued that day, more than you know,
And put myself in a place that punished me,
I will all the more cherish, that we are together,
And you are the man that you are.

Because I love you, with all of my heart,
I came back to you, and we made a fresh start.
Again and again, the fear surfaced, then fled,
I made so many mistakes, my heart too, bled.
Because I love you, and I hurt me too,
My eyes became waterfalls, with tears of blue.

The fear could not drown, the love that I feel,
It could only submerge it for moments.
Because my love is so strong, it would fight to breathe,
And shoot to the surface, once again.
Because I love you, the guilt that I wrought,
Would have sucked me down like a whirlpool.

But you let it not. You extended your hand,
Said; I love you, grab hold, and you pulled
Me safely to shore.
You have proven to me, what caliber of man you are,
And I am so thankful to have you and your love.
Because you love me, you were willing to do,
Whatever it was that I needed you too.

You showed me the depth, of what you were willing to give.
Your heart and love, and kindness, and friendship,
Your passion, understanding and patience…..
Your loyalty, honesty, and sincerity too…
What more could I ask? But did that stop you?
You asked, I said yes, your wife to be,
I can only hope I give to you, as much as you give me.
