Been Too Long (For Rick Herron) Poem by Mark Money

Been Too Long (For Rick Herron)

i used to dream.
i'd lie in my bed alone at night
surrounded by my comforting stars.
my dreams would parade right on by...
i'd just reach up and grab a handful.
but now i can't dream no more
mama they've just taken it away.
i couldn't hear the whistle blow;
never saw the train leaving the station.
looking back, i suppose i could have caught it-
stuck out a hand and made a try
but did i?
i don't remember.
stars it's been too long
long since i saw a face
face i could touch
touch and wouldn't run away.
stars it's been too long (don'tbeafraid)
i want to be your friend.
touch me, stars
idon'twanttobeafraid
stars, oh it's been so long oh
