Beggars Can't Be Choosers Poem by Mario, Lucien, Rene Odekerken

Beggars Can't Be Choosers

Hands outstretched, eyes cast low,
the world moves past, swift and unbothered.
Choices are a luxury of the filled,
while the empty take what they can.

A crust of bread, a tattered coat,
a place where the wind does not reach.
Dignity is a quiet wish,
swallowed with each unspoken plea.

To ask is to need, not to demand,
yet the weight of the gift is heavy.
Some take and feel shame,
dome give and turn away.
