Belong To The Land Poem by Francis Duggan

Belong To The Land

Those who tell you they own the land have got it all wrong
For how can we own to what we do belong
To the land that does feed us we return to one day
But the land does remain life works in this way
It should not be a hard thing for to understand
That like all other creatures we are of the land
To prove they have ownership of land people have a legal document known as a deed
But this so called proof of ownership of land is temporary indeed
For the holder of the deed eventually does die
Which proves that land ownership is based on a lie
The land that does feed us is our greatest friend
On our very survival on it we depend
And it should not be hard for anyone to understand
That we cannot own what we belong to and this is the land.
