Ben Poem by Diana van den Berg

Ben

May you have felt
my love
for you,
the only love
you ever knew,
in the glorious winter sunshine
on your ridgeback
wherever you are
this sunny day,
my darling, puppy love.

May you forgive me
not for my sake,
but yours
and may you know
in the depth
of your loving heart
that though
my plans
I whispered
to you
over the fence

and didn’t give up,
even after

and gave me 2 different stories
of which town you are in,

but all that counts for nothing
because I failed you
and was unable
to save you from
your future of neglect.

Please hear me
every day
across the ether
when I talk to you
and most of all,
know that Auntie Di
loves you
so very much
and prays for you
every day
that God will find a way,
preferably that your owners
