Best Friend Poem by Itumeleng Tebagano

Best Friend

My dear I’m surprised by everything that you know
It’s because you hear every time that I move my jaws
I feel a lot better when my being is next to you close
That is why for you I have a little bunch of white roses

You are the first person whose number I will dial
I call with enough airtime to speak to you a while
I met you in a group in these unrehearsed old years
For you I will dropp all just to fight your deep fears

After I come down I love how you hold no punches
Before you I still I shared with you all my lunches
We’ve surprisingly burst though our last collapse
It all went foggy in that momentary mind lapse

I’m good at cutting my losses when it gets rough
With you I know we’ll wither it when it’s tough
When you are happy I will be the jumping there
When you cry I will be dropping my own tear

In you I have discovered a lost part of my being
I am delighted that she is a person worth seeing
My happiness has played in my mind secretly
In my premonition your offspring call me auntie

Still what’s here today is not promised tomorrow
All I want is to see your hundred watt smiles more
Whether you are right here or much much further
You are my closest in four seasons of the weather
