Take A Break Poem by Itumeleng Tebagano

Take A Break

Parties, boozing and fun nights behind and forthcoming
Have not brought no real happiness to your lamented soul
All your life fraught with sorrows that are dream crushing
Forced smiles designed to disguise a heart with a whole

Sad, mistaken child of a broken home who just wont quit
The evidence is quiet clear but you cast it aside stubbornly
Of all you have ever cared about you have kept a little bit
Brainwashed by only images that portray love abundantly

In charge of a future which curiously resembles your past
Hurt freely meanders through the crevices of your mind
A lost love whose memories are now all but cremation dust
You often sit and take a slow and poignant look in a rewind

Friends often left you in the midst of swimming in the dreams
Those sacrifices of you for others somehow went unnoticed
Cause you never burst into song with your innermost hymns
Your being almost references the story of the baby Jesus Christ

Similar to Jesus not in the fact that you were born to save the world
Or that one you will be chastised by others as they all upon you a belt
Only for being dealt a hand that could topple into death a young child
Exactly the same in the fact that you just cant seem to save yourself

Immersed once in the idea of peace when the other side of the coin drops
When you would finally escape the gatekeepers of your muffled cries
Towards a beaming lighting on your way to a place where hatred flops
And the wings of cheer gently rock you to sleep in hypnotizing chimes

You must ease your row, take your foot off the gas and hit the brakes
Before you crush into this sea of confusing and ever blazing commotion
Where all are out for self, crowded with pleasers, abusers and fakes
Step back, leave the clubs and the sex and view your life in a slow motion

Remember this is your one chance to live the other half of your life
Do not treat yourself the way they’ve treated you just to numb it all
See it through without the brain altering cocktails, through strife
Surviving your childhood gave you the tools to live and not free fall

Take a break and see that all the goodies you have searched for are here
Without wrenching suffering one would never appreciate happiness
You most have the knowledge to encounter love that burns with flair
A love that protects what it has and prays for the unkind wilderness
